A Cystometrogram (CMG) is a test to check your bladder pressure. This simple procedure is performed in the Urodynamic Suite at Starkville Urology Clinic and takes 20 to 40 minutes to perform.
Why is it necessary?
The normal bladder stores urine and then releases it at a convenient time. If a patient’s symptoms suggest that their bladder is not properly working, then this test helps Dr. Gordon M. Castleberry find out why – by measuring the bladder’s activity as it fills and empties. In order to do this, the clinic staff must recreate a patient’s symptoms in the clinic by artificially filling his/her bladder.
Is any preparation needed?
It is important that you drink plenty of fluid (one glass every hour) on the day of the test and the day after. It is helpful if the patient has a full bladder when arriving at the clinic.
Patients who think they may have a bladder infection or that they might be pregnant should notify the clinic staff prior to their cystometrogram. The clinic provides attire during this procedure, but patients are welcome to bring their own dressing gowns and slippers if they choose to do so.
